So You Want To Be a Porn Star

So You Want To Be a Porn Star

Since Belle Knox came out a few weeks ago with news that she was paying for her education at prestigious Duke University by being a porn star, there has been renewed interest in the porn industry as a whole and becoming a porn star in particular.  However, beginning a career in the adult industry is more than simply just saying, “I’m going to be a porn star.”

  1. Be kind to your parts.  Although personal hygiene is paramount in daily life, your private parts need to be groomed and cleaned well.  Think of it in many respects as learning to be camera ready.  Wax, comb, shave – whatever you need to do to keep things looking neat and tidy.  In addition, visit your doctor regularly to ensure you do have a clean bill of health.  Any producer or production studio is going to want to see that your health is first-rate before they get you to strip down and go on camera.
  2.

  3. Decide what you are comfortable with.  The important thing with any career in the porn industry is determining exactly what you are comfortable with; decide on this before the cameras start rolling.  If you wait until action is going on set, you are going to do damage to your reputation and potentially the business of the production studio.  You don’t want to earn the reputation of being a pain in the butt, so ensure that you know what you are good with before you get on set and realize there are certain sex acts in mind that you really aren’t comfortable with.
  4.

  5. Ensure the production company is reliable.  Not every porn shoot is reliable.  There are many would-be filmmakers who believe that theirs will be the latest and greatest film the porn industry has ever seen, but there are risks inherent in signing on for a shoot of this nature.  For starters, there is no licensing that would apply to keep you or your interests truly safe, as these are strictly freelance outfits simply looking to make it in the industry.  That does not mean they are fully safe.
  6.

  7. Find an agent and stay loyal to the agent.  If you have an agent that has gotten you quite a few jobs in the past, pay them in a timely fashion and ensure that you stick with them if they are doing what they should be.  They are supposed to be operating in your best interests, so if they are continuing to do so, ensure you stick with them – they are obviously doing something right!

Breaking into the porn industry is easier said than done; however, if you play your cards right and are able to make good choices that get you in, you have to make good choices in order to maintain your standing in the industry.  You don’t want to lose an opportunity to get ahead in the industry, and making choices that could put your reputation at risk in the industry.  If you want a career in an industry that continues to be growing, make the right choices and your career will take off.
